Bedford County Commissioners Seeking Public's Suggestions

The Bedford County commissioners have announced a town hall on March 31 to hear from constituents.

The town hall will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Hyndman Volunteer Fire Company, 3912 Center Street, Hyndman.

Sheriff Wayne Emerick will be the guest speaker and will provide updates from his office. Light Refreshments will be served.

State of the County

The commissioners are also holding a “State of the County” event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 31 at the Bedford American Legion. There is no cost to participate. The event is sponsored by Lehman Engineers.

County departments will be there to provide resources and information about the county offices. Those interested in attending should RSVP by calling the commissioner’s office at (814) 623-4807 or by emailing [email protected].

Below are two surveys that the commissioners are encouraging county residents to complete.

Broadband survey

The Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission (SAP&DC) was recently awarded a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission to complete an analysis of broadband needs in the region.

The study will inventory existing broadband assets, identify gaps in service, and develop a plan for improving connectivity throughout the region. As part of the study, SAP&DC is conducting a survey to assess current levels of broadband service and needs.

The results of this survey will help guide SAP&DC on how best to ensure that residents and businesses in the region have affordable and adequate access to broadband internet.

Participation is important, as it will help support future grant applications that can fund improved broadband infrastructure.

The survey can be completed online using the links below. Take the survey in less than 5 minutes by visiting one of the follow websites:

The survey will be open until March 13, 2020. Please email [email protected] or contact Stacy LoCastro at (814) 949-6510 for any other questions.

Women’s health facility

A new option for women’s health and birth is in the works for the Southern Alleghenies region of Pennsylvania.

The Southern Alleghenies Women’s Health and Birth Center would be a place where healthy, pregnant women could experience a natural, physiologic labor and birth in a homelike atmosphere and where women of all ages can have their basic health concerns addressed within the scope of practice of certified nurse midwives.

A pregnant woman can expect the birth center to provide a population with high quality, family-centered educational programs on wellness and preventative care.

The educational programs encourage parents to become informed and self-reliant assuming responsibility for personal health and the health of the family.
