A year after finishing the season 3-19, the Williamsburg boys' basketball team is headed to the PIAA Championships.
The Blue Pirates (15-7) qualified for the PIAA Class 1A Championships with a 63-60 victory over visiting Saltsburg in a District 6 Class 1A semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 21.
Seeded second in the district, WHS was scheduled to play top-seeded Bishop Carroll on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Both teams have qualified for the state playoffs.
WHS used a 24-9 fourth-quarter run to rally past Saltsburg. The Blue Pirates trailed 51-39 entering the final quarter.
Lambert Palmer (14 points), Josiah Dowey (13), Adam Uplinger (11) and Shane Brantner (10) led WHS in scoring. Palmer added 13 rebounds and seven assists.
Williamsburg's last appearance in the district title game was in the 2016-17 season, where it lost to Saltsburg 64-45.
