Woodbury Loses Mayor Unexpectedly After 15-Plus Years of Service

David F. Chesney Sr., 65, of Woodbury, passed away on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, at UPMC Altoona.

Chesney was born in Altoona, the son of the late Charles A. Sr. and Ruth Irene (Nicewonger) Chesney.

He was formerly married to the late Annette L. (Corle) Chesney.

Surviving are a son, David F. Jr. (Linda) Cheney of Williamsburg, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Chesney graduated in 1972 from Central High School, Martinsburg.

Chesney was employed as a truck driver for Grannas Brothers Stone & Asphalt, Williamsburg, and Orchard Lane Excavating, Roaring Spring. The Mennonite community also employed Chesney as a driver.

Perhaps his biggest accomplishment was serving his community of Woodbury as mayor for more than 15 years.

He attended the Woodbury Church of God.

"He served his best as the mayor of Woodbury and served the borough for over 15 years," said Barb Wilt, secretary/treasurer of Woodbury Borough Council. "He worked hard to get the borough set up with a new maintenance building, which was badly needed. Dave cared about the community and did his best to enforce the borough ordinances."

Council noted his passing at its regular Feb. 3 meeting.

The borough will make a monetary donation in Chesney's name to the John K. Bolger Funeral Home, Inc.

Anyone in the community who desires to make a donation can contact the funeral home at 793-2102.
