A missed warning sign. One little dot. Gigantic consequences.

Fifty years after the original Andromeda outbreak killed nearly every living person in Piedmont, Arizona, something new appears, this time in the heart of the jungle. Resembling the original strain, yet at the same time completely different, a structure appears along the equator, directly in the midst of unexplored territory, inhabited only by tribes uncontacted by outside influences.

"The original account of 'The Andromeda Strain,' published fifty years ago, opened the eyes of millions of readers to the great potential and dire limitations of scientific progress." – Daniel H. Wilson on Michael Crichton's account of the original outbreak. Wilson, like Crichton, makes it difficult sometimes to deem where scientific reality ends and fiction begins.

A roboticist, Wilson has done his technological research. Filled with technology and scientific jargon, yet easy to comprehend for the layman. Wilson does well at honoring Crichton's story, yet is able to maintain his own style and voice. Readers will appreciate throwbacks to the original 1969 novel with referrals to "scientist" Michael Crichton who documented disastrous results of the first outbreak as well as the other scientists and characters involved in that story line.

When man tried to harness microparticles from the ionosphere to potentially use as the ultimate weapon, things went horribly wrong, as noted in "The Andromeda Strain." It turns out it was even more potent than they could have ever hoped for. Unfortunately it was set loose by unsuspecting civilians with curious minds and thus began the first epidemic of what became known as the Andromeda Strain. Fifty Years later there's a new Evolution of the strain. Can scientists figure out the key to disarming this evolution of the strain before it takes over the whole Earth, or possibly the whole universe? Or, will it be the end of mankind and life as we know it?

Scientist Dr. James Stone, son of the Dr. Stone that was instrumental in the original Andromeda incident, is selected last minute as part of the team that will trek into the jungle in a covert mission to explore and hopefully defeat the new growth before it can spread. The scientists must combine their vast diverse knowledge and their unique technical devices to infiltrate the structure in hopes of destroying the new evolution before it destroys them and all of civilization along with them.

"The future is coming faster than most people realize" – Michael Crichton
