Dragons Split; Record at 14-6

The Central Dragons split a pair of Mountain League games last week, giving them a 14-6 overall record and a 9-3 mark in league play.

Huntingdon 46, CHS 39

On Jan. 29, the Dragons welcomed league-leader Huntingdon and battled the Bearcats for four quarters before falling 46-39. The visitors led 14-12 after one quarter and improved their advantage to 27-21 at intermission. The teams played to a 10-10 stalemate in the third frame before the Bearcats won the final eight minutes 9-8.

Devon Boyles paced the Dragons in scoring with 10 points, which included a perfect 6-for-6 performance at the foul line. Braden Kitt chipped in eight points, while Hunter Klotz and Jacob Eberlin added seven each.

CHS 57, P-O 51

On Jan. 31 Central traveled to Philipsburg-Osceola and returned with a hard-fought 57-51 victory over the Mounties (9-10).

The Dragons had slim leads of 12-10 after one quarter and 28-25 at the half. P-O cut its deficit to just one point (40-39) entering the final quarter before Central was able to take control with a 17-12 final frame.

Both teams connected on seven 3-point baskets. Central’s Jason Ferry had a season-high 14 points which included three shots from long range. Devon Boyles added 13 points, while Jacob Eberlin scored eight.

“We played well against Huntingdon in most areas, but shot poorly (12 of 46),” Central coach Paul Frederick said. “We may see them in the playoffs and will have a chance if we can put the ball in the basket. P-O played us tough as they do with everyone up there. Jason stepped up and delivered for us and the team found a way to win a tough game on the road.

“We visit Clearfield this week then get ready for Tyrone for our final regular-season game on Friday.”
