Conemaugh Nason Medical Center Lab Re-Accredited for 2 Years

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center’s laboratory recently completed a successful three-day on-site inspection by The Joint Commission.

The lab has been granted full re-accreditation for a period of two years.

During the review, a Joint Commission expert surveyor evaluated compliance with laboratory standards related to several areas, including document and process control, healthcare-associated conditions, risk reduction, and staff qualifications and competency. The surveyor also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“Accreditation is extremely important in assuring the laboratory is maintaining the precision and accuracy needed in reporting the quality lab results that can be trusted by physicians and patients,” Tim Harclerode, chief executive officer for Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring, said. “While all laboratories in the state must be licensed, accreditation places Conemaugh Nason’s lab at the industry’s highest level of achievement.”

Benefits of accreditation include validating the lab’s strong patient safety program and reinforcing the community’s confidence in the quality and safety of care, treatment and services provided by Conemaugh Nason’s laboratory. Accreditation by The Joint Commission also verified the robust performance excellence plan in place by Conemaugh Nason’s laboratory.

“Our team works diligently to ensure that all of our laboratory testing is completed in a timely manner with patient safety and quality results as a priority,” Michelle Buttry, chief nursing officer, said. “We are Making Communities Healthier by providing trusted results for proper diagnosis and care of patients.”

The Joint Commission’s laboratory standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients. The standards are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help organizations measure, assess and improve performance.
