Eight miles of track were laid on the Pennsylvania Midland Railroad between Cessna and Brooks Mills before work was stopped on the project. One report said work would be resumed in the spring, while rumor persisted that the plan to extend the rail line to Bedford came to a halt because of “financial embarrassment.”
An effort was being made to form a new county composed of parts of Centre, Clearfield and Blair. A bill on the measure was to be introduced in the Legislature by Rep. Womelsdorf of Centre County.
The Rev. A.I. Latham, pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Martinsburg, accepted a call to Philadelphia. He was to preach his farewell sermon on Feb. 3.
J.I. Mock resigned as teacher of the west Martinsburg School and was going into the grocery business with his brother E.D. Mock in Tyrone.
Joseph K. Benson was taking inventory in the hardware department of Eichelberger, Ashcom & Co., Martinsburg, when a .32 calibre revolver went off. Fortunately he had it aimed at the ceiling when it discharged.
