Bassler Receives Award

The Combat Infantryman Badge for superior performance of duty in action against the enemy in France and Germany was awarded to Private John. H. Bassler, 22, husband of Mrs. June F. Bassler of Martinsburg. Private Bassler has been in the service for two years.

The Professor E.S. Kagarise property on Locust Street has been bought by Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Brown of West Allegheny Street.

Within the next few weeks every farm in the Cove will be visited by a man or woman who will be engaged in taking a federal census. Seven enumerators for the Blair county farms on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of last week attended school in the Blair county courthouse and were given instruction in their duties.

A bountiful turkey and chicken dinner was served on a Sunday recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Smith near Martinsburg, for Mr. and Mrs. Harold Manges, who were recently married.

Martinsburg Volunteer Fire company received an annual increase in appropriations to $300 per year.
