The Roaring Spring Borough Council held its first meeting of the year on Monday evening, Jan. 13.
Council discussed the ongoing issue with the wall on Main Street.
Access has been restricted to traffic coming in town since a portion of the wall collapsed last year.
Because the borough did not own the properties where the wall was built, it was limited to what it could do to rectify the problem. The borough has since purchased all but one property behind the wall and had the buildings on the properties torn down.
Council has an agreement in place to purchase the final property at 205 Main St. for $34,000 but has yet to receive the final agreement of sale from the property owner.
The borough has already purchased four of the properties. Demolition costs have been covered by a grant from the Blair County Demolition Fund.
Council voted to extend the life of the Roaring Spring Municipal Authority for 50 more years, until Nov. 2, 2069.
Council passed a resolution to promote, inform and encourage people to participate in the 2020 census.
Brewery Pub
Council agreed to schedule a zoning hearing for February on an application for a “conditional use” of the building at 269 Main St.
Robert W. Lape Sr., Dane M. Noel, Lisa Noel, Anita Baker and Michael Keith plan to turn the business into a brewery pub to be operated on the first floor.
Noel is the son of Roaring Spring Councilman Dane Noel, who is not part of the group of owners.
Councilman Noel said the business will make and sell its own craft beers and that no liquor will be sold. He said the business can sell only Pennsylvania-made beers.
Councilman Noel said a brewery pub differs from a traditional bar setting in that it sells only specially made beers and will close at 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends.
The brewery pub has the approval of zoning officer Tom Holsinger.
A public notice will be advertised soon in the Morrisons Cove Herald with the exact date and time of the zoning meeting.
The next meeting of the Roaring Spring Borough Council will be held on Feb. 10, at 6 p.m. at the borough building.
