Army Helicopter Stranded

One hundred quarts of a high explosives such as is used in shooting oil wells was put off in the Martinsburg borough well near the cannery Wednesday afternoon. Water, stone and debris were thrown into the air a distance of almost 200 feet following the explosion. The geyser continued for nearly a minute. The explosive was packed in long cylinder containers placed on top of each other in the well. The lowest container reached down 500 feet in the 650-foot well, and the top container reached to within 400 feet of the top. The purpose of the shooting is to break the rock stratas with hopes of getting more water.

Mr, and Mrs. Harvey A. Stoner, well known residents of West Martinsburg on Wednesday of this week celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary by holding an open house. Mr. Harvey Stoner and Miss Annie Margaret Carper were united in marriage on Jan. 10, 1895, the ceremony being performed at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Carper at the Carper homestead farm in Taylor Township at high noon.
