12 to Receive Keystone Degrees

Herald of Jan. 5, 1995

Twelve area FFA members were scheduled to receive their Keystone Degrees Jan. 9 at the FFA’s State Mind-Winter Convention in Harrisburg. Degrees were to be presented to Mark Bailey, Dwight Smith, Thomas Snowberger, Thomas Sollenberger and Roger Stock of the Central Cove chapter; Scott Defibaugh, Laura Hogenmiller, Joy Matthews and Andrew Steele of the Northern Bedford chapter; and Brent England, Yvette England and Lisa Miller of Williamsburg chapter.

The Martinsburg Unit of the Salvation Army received $2,868 from its Christmas kettle collection during the holiday season. The total was up several hundred dollars from previous years.

Last year was a wet one on the whole, even though there was an extreme dry spell in the late spring and early summer. Precipitation for the year totaled 41.11 inches – almost identical to the total precipitation for the previous year, which was the wettest in this area in 14 years. Rainfall last year was still more than 10 inches short of the 51.9 inches recorded in 1979.
