NB Edges Williamsburg By 1

Northern Bedford came from behind for a thrilling 52-47 overtime win at home last Tuesday evening, Dec. 17, over McConnellsburg.

The Lady Panthers trailed by 8 points at two junctures in the game including a 25-17 halftime deficit.

NB chipped away at the lead in the third and early fourth quarter. Allie Snider's trey from the corner tied the game at 33-33 midway through the fourth period. Snider, who led the Lady Panthers with 18 points, hit a big trey on NB's first overtime possession and the visiting Lady Spartans could never recover. NB outscored McConnellsburg 11-6 in the overtime period.

NB coach Jon Ewart was excited about his squad's 35-point second-half explosion.

"We played better than we have all season on the offensive end in the second half," Ewart said. "That was the key, we got good inside and outside contributions including six three pointers."

Maddie Johnson chipped in with 15 points for the Lady Panthers, now 1-5 overall.

NB 49, Williamsburg 48

Northern Bedford hung on for a 49-48 victory over visiting Williamsburg last Friday night, Dec. 20.

The teams traded leads numerous times in the first half before settling for a 21-21 halftime tie. The Lady Panthers came out the hotter squad in the second half and took as much as an eight-point lead before the Lady Pirates charged back late.

Williamsburg would close within two points three different times in the final 3-1/2 minutes of the game but could never capitalize on opportunities to tie or take the lead.

Jade Carper sunk two free throws with 1:03 left to pull the Lady Pirates to within one at 49-48. It would be the last points of the game. Both squads would miss all free throws and field goal opportunities down the stretch including three consecutive Lady Pirate misses from inside the key in the final 12 seconds of the game.

Allie Snider paced the Lady Panthers with 14 points while Kendel Norris, for the Pirates, was the games-high scorer with 20.

Both teams are now 2-4 overall.
