Lady Dragons Sweep Conference Foes

The Central Lady Dragons began Mountain League play last week and swept a pair of games. The Dragons raised their record to 3-1 after defeating Penns Valley and Bald Eagle Area.

On Dec. 11 the Lady Dragons jumped ahead 11-7 after one quarter and extended their advantage to 28-19 at halftime. After winning the third quarter 11-6 the teams played evenly in the final frame to set the score at 53-40.

Madison Eicher paced the offense with 14 points and also corralled seven rebounds. Kylie Metzger scored nine points and also recorded seven boards, while Bailey Heuston scored 12 points as she connected on 6-of-8 free-throw attempts.

The junior varsity team came up a little short, falling 42-36.

On Dec. 13 the team traveled to Wingate to battle BEA and returned with a dominating 46-26 victory.

Central led 15-8 after one quarter and 31-9 at intermission. Playing a variety of girls in the second half, the teams played more evenly.

Erin Brumbaugh paced the offense with 11 points while Kylie Metzger and Madison Eicher each scored seven. Leah Johnston finished with eight steals while Sophie Snyder had seven rebounds.

There was no junior varsity game.

"It's tough winning at Penns Valley so we enjoyed the bus ride home," Central coach Rob Mock said. "I thought the girls came ready to play on Friday and we were able to take a huge lead into the half. This allowed us to go deep into our bench which gave some of the girls good varsity minutes."
