HARRY MERVIN 'MERV' CARPER

Harry Mervin "Merv" Carper, 86, of Roaring Spring, passed away Monday, December 2, 2019, at The Village at Morrison's Cove in Martinsburg.

He was born on July 22, 1933, in Woodbury, PA, son of the late Oren and Grace (Woodcock) Carper.

Mervin worked in the Engineering Department at Appleton Papers for over 40 years.

He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

We will all fondly remember him calling everyone "Arch."

Merv was a graduate of Roaring Spring High School where he was active in several sports, especially basketball. He was very proud to have set many records in basketball, including all-time leading scorer at the school.

Being a gifted woodworker, he made many great things for his family, including a cozy cabin at Raystown Lake, where we spent a lot of great times together.

Surviving is his loving and devoted wife, Shelva Jean (Detrick) Carper; his son, Shawn E. (and wife, Patricia) of Middletown, PA; his daughter, the Rev. Laurie C. Stiles (and husband, the Rev. Carper and Vivian K. Carper, both of Middletown; and in June he was blessed by a great grandson, Judah L. Hughey.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael E. Carper; two brothers: Donald Carper and Robert Carper; and his sister Barbara Dick.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at his church, Bare Memorial Church of God, 500 E. Main St., Roaring Spring, PA 16673. There will be a viewing from 2 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service. His daughter, the Rev. Laurie C. Stiles, will be officiating.
