Skyles School Flag Raising

Herald of Dec.5, 1919

On Friday, November 28, 1919 occurred an event long to be remembered by the boys and girls of the Skyles school, in Taylor township. The occasion was the time set for the unfurling of a flag presented to the school by Camp 561, P. O. S. of A., of Martinsburg. A program appropriate to the occasion had been prepared. The teacher, Mr. John Wareham, showed remarkable thoroughness in training his boys and girls to perform the parts assigned as well. A splendid exhibit of corn, fruit and other farm products was gathered and added interest to the program. In the exhibit was a pumpkin weighing 92 pounds. George Clapper is the proud owner of the pumpkin.

A number of little folks of town gathered at the home of Evelyn I Burket on Saturday afternoon last, as a surprise in honor of her tenth birthday. They had a jolly good time throughout the afternoon and enjoyed themselves as only little folks can.

Blair county is an industrial center but interest in agriculture is not lacking with 1,865 farms.
