Library Welcomes Authors

The Friends of the Martinsburg Community Library met at the library on Tuesday November 19.

Librarian Danette Feathers reported that three authors have been at the library since September.

New voting machines were on display for one day for practice use prior to the Nov. 5 election.

The Blair County Commissioners have passed a 9.5-percent increase in library funding for the Blair County Library System. North Woodbury Township has increased its yearly donation to the Martinsburg library.

Princess Elsa from “Frozen” will be visiting children’s story hour in December.

A family coloring event is scheduled for Dec. 12 and attendees are encouraged to wear an ugly Christmas sweater. Also, hot chocolate and cookies will be served at this event. Danettte continued her report saying that there will be a wreath making craft on Dec. 15 for the first 10 people who reserve a place. A reading bingo will also begin in December.

Shaena Brantner is the new library assistant.

The Taste of the Cove in October was a succes. The date for next year’s event is Oct. 10, 2020, at Homewood.

Theme baskets are on display at the library. Each month features a different basket which is awarded from drawing tickets.

The Cove Book Club continues to meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. December’s book is “The Mistletoe Murder,” by P. D. James. Books are available for checkout at the library.

Order forms for chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate peanut clusters and toasted coconut clusters are at the library. Ordered goodies will be available for pickup on Dec. 9.

The library will be accepting books for the next book sale after the Christmas holidays. That sale is scheduled for Feb. 20, 21 and 22, 2020.

The next Friends meeting is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2020.
