Undefeated Dragons

Herald of Nov. 13, 1969

Central High School’s fire-breathing Scarlet Dragons soared to their first undefeated-untied season in the ten-year history of the school with a 31-6 victory over Chief Logan at Lewistown. Jubilant Central fans returned to Morrisons Cove about midnight, sounding their horns and voices to awaken residents of Martinsburg and Roaring Spring and share their delirium. Homebound fans, however, already knew the game’s outcome by listening to it on radio. Coach Harry Clarke’s Dragon’s played a game that matched their performance throughout the season.

Jack Mock, the football hero of Scarlet Dragon Country, has won the Central Pennsylvania “Mr. Touchdown” contest sponsored by Radio Station WVAM in Altoona. The Central High senior received 30,201,804 votes, written in long hand and typed during long hours of dedication by his student fans and a number of adult fans. Mock, No. 80 on the Dragon squad, earned two letters in football before the present season. He was one of Central’s three captains this year.
