Putting cows on the front page since 1885.
Blair County’s Democratic Commissioner Ted Beam Jr. has apparently lost his bid for re-election, falling to challenger Democrat Laura Burke. Beam received 5,944 votes and Burke received 6,963.
In Bedford County, the top story was in the race for sheriff, where Republican Wayne Emerick Jr. defeated Democrat Diane Nelson. Emerick earned 7,092 votes to Nelson’s 3,721.
In the Blair County commissioner race, the top vote getter was Republican Amy Webster, with 14,524 votes. Incumbent Commissioner Bruce Erb won 13,803 votes.
In Pa., on the general election ballot, only two candidates per party, (Democrat and Republican) can appear on the ballot, virtually assuring at least one party is represented on the board.
However, if a write-in candidate were to receive more votes than a candidate on the ballot, the write-in candidate would be seated.
So if two Republicans are voted in, and a third Republican got more write-in votes than the top vote getter on the Democratic ticket, the Republican write-in candidate would take the seat along side the two elected Republican commissioners.
