Putting cows on the front page since 1885.
Fueled by Dalton Smith’s 112 yards and three rushing touchdowns, Northern Bedford ran its record to 6-3 with a 49-0 rout of visiting West Branch last Friday night, Oct. 18.
Smith, who went over 1,000 yards rushing for the season, had touchdown runs of 9, 7 and 12 yards. Smith, the latest in a line of fine tailbacks at NB, is the first underclassman to go over the century mark in rushing since Preston Albright in 2009.
“Dalton had a terrific night but a lot of that as he’ll be the first to attest to, was the outstanding work of our offensive line and blocking backs,” NB coach Garry Black said.
In addition to two of Smith’s touchdown runs, NB got two Thad Leidy touchdown strikes to forge a 28-0 halftime lead. Cadin Ebersole was the recipient of a 14-yard strike while Brady Clark hauled in a 40-yard strike for the other.
Clark added an electrifying 80-yard touchdown run showcasing his speed in the second half and Griffin Keller had a 15-yard touchdown run himself to finalize the Panther scoring. Collin Yeatts connected on all five PAT kicks while Evan Coffey added two more to set the 49-0 final.
The stellar Panther defense allowed just 68 total yards and the Warriors never got into the red zone.
“I couldn’t be happier with our all around effort tonight,” Black added.
The Panthers will close the regular season by trying to clinch a home playoff game on senior night versus Glendale on Friday evening, Oct. 25. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
