Police Cars Get Cameras
Herald of Oct. 22 2009
Two area police departments are now equipped with the latest technology that can save officers a lot of headaches when in prosecutions and improve officer safety.
The efforts of a local non-profit organization that assists area communities by raising funds to purchase safety-related equipment have provided the Martinsburg and Roaring Spring police departments with in-car video systems.
The Leah Hoover Memorial Fund, in honor of Leah Hoover, raised approximately $10,000 this summer.
The new video system, which includes a camera, was recently installed into a cruiser at each police department.
The cameras turn on automatically when the emergency lights or sirens are activated. Officers also can manually turn on the system. The monitor is invisible to the driver when not being used.
Police can capture between 30 and 60 seconds of the action before activating the record mode.
The cameras include front and rear facing.
