Central

The Central Lady Dragon volleyball team lost three of four Mountain League games recently, dropping its league record to 3-8 on the season.

On Oct. 1, the Lady Dragons hosted undefeated Bald Eagle Area (8-0) and lost in straight sets 25-6, 25-7, 25-20.

Abbie Kitt paced the Dragons with six service points followed by Lainie Heuston’s four. Heuston also had 14 digs, while Annie Kitt and Erin Brumbaugh each had a pair of kills.

On Oct. 3, it was a trip to Tyrone and a four-set loss for the Lady Dragons. The scores were 23-25, 25-13, 25-19, 25-17.

Lainie Heuston had a double-double with 19 digs and 10 service points. Erin Brumbaugh added 11 kills, while Kiera Berkheimer had nine service points.

On Oct. 5, the Dragons traveled to Johnstown to participate in the Westmont Hilltop JV Volleyball Invitational.

The Dragons split with each of their four pool opponents – Westmont Hilltop, Northern Cambria, Forest Hills and Conemaugh Township. They finished third in pool play.

In the quarterfinals, the Lady Dragons fell to Central Cambria 25-21. Haylie Mingle had 49 assists along with 15 service winners. Addie Smith added her own double-double with 20 kills and 12 service points. Alex Klotz finished with 17 kills, and service points while Aubrey Berkheimer had 14 service points.

On Oct. 8, at home, Central defeated Bellefonte in straight sets, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23. Erin Brumbaugh had a huge night with 14 service points, 11 assists and seven kills. Lainie Heuston also had a double-double with 18 digs and 11 service winners. Brinley Bowers totaled 11 assists, while Brooke Claar had eight kills. Kierra Berkheimer (six) and Haylie Mingle (four combined for 10 service points.

On Oct. 10, the team traveled to Huntingdon and lost a tough five-set match by scores of 25-17, 25-27, 15-25, 25-15, 15-12.

Lainie Heuston finished with 19 digs and 14 service points, while Abbie Kitt and Haylie Mingle each had 10 service winners. Erin Brumbaugh recorded 11 kills and eight service points, while Kierra Berkheimer tallied 18 digs. Annie Kitt pounded down five kills, while Brinley Bowers had four service points.

Northern Bedford

Bellwood-Antis has one of the stronger volleyball teams in the ICC this year. The Lady Blue Devils flexed their muscles at Northern Bedford on Sept. 30 evening with a 3-0 sweep of the Lady Panthers.

Bellwood won by scores of 25-8, 25-12, and 25-16.

Makayla Kochara led all NB servers with seven service points followed by Madison Johnson with six service points, four kills, five blocks and five digs. Jenna Carberry contributed seven digs

Northern Bedford got a home volleyball win Oct. 1 with a 3-0 sweep of Hope for Hyndman Charter.

The Lady Panthers won by convincing scores of 25-11, 25-12, and 25-16.

Veronica Griffith led all servers with 12 service points. Madison Johnson had 15 kills. Adi Sipes and Makayla Kochara chimed in with 11 service points each.

Northern Bedford showed Tussey Mountain on Oct. 3 that they would not lay down for their rematch in volleyball this year. The Titans dominated in an early season sweep of the Panthers, but the return trip to NBC was not as easy for the visiting Lady Titans.

Northern Bedford went overtime to beat TM 29-27 in game one to set the tone for a competitive match. Tussey bounced back with a hard fought 25-22 win in game two.

Game 3 and 4 saw the Panthers struggle and Tussey surge as the Lady Titans won by convincing 25-9 and 25-15 scores to give TM the 3-1 victory.

Madison Johnson led all NB servers with 15 service points, 13 kills and five blocks. Addie Sipes contributed 11 assists, and Abby Zelanko had six digs.

ICC South-leading Everett swept Northern Bedford in three straight games in volleyball action Oct. 9.

The Lady Warriors won by scores of 25-14, 25-9 and 25-13.

Madison Johnson had five service points, four kills and three blocks to pace the Lady Panthers statistically. Makayla Kochara added five service points for the 2-11 Lady Panthers.

C-K

The Claysburg-Kimmel High School volleyball team won its 10th of the season Oct. 1, defeating host Williamsburg in straight sets – 25-7, 25-15, 25-14.

Mackenzie Clemens and Megan Hartman each served for six points to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Clemens dished out seven assists, while Jocelyn Shultz contributed five kills.

C-K hosted Chestnut Ridge Oct. 2 and prevailed in four sets – 25-23, 25-14, 13-25, 25-12.

Mackenzie Clemens served for four points and dished out 13 assists, while Harleigh Cavender also had 13 assists. Jocelyn Shultz recorded nine kills, while Rebekah Claar added eight kills.

On Oct. 3, C-K earned a 25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22 victory over visiting Glendale.

Host Everett defeated C-K in five sets Oct. 7 – 25-21, 23-25, 24-26, 25-17, 16-14. Mackenzie Clemens served for 13 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Harleigh Cavender added nine service points and 13 assists, while Rebekah Claar recorded 16 kills.

On Oct. 8, host West Branch recorded a sweep against C-K – 25-20, 26-24, 26-24.

Haileigh Reed served for five points for C-K. Mackenzie Clemens had 10 assists in the defeat, while Jocelyn Shultz added nine kills.

Bellwood-Antis entertained C-K Oct. 10 and scored a 25-19, 25-22, 25-15 victory.

Harleigh Cavender served for eight points for the Lady Bulldogs. Rebekah Claar registered eight kills.
