The Central Dragon football team welcomed Bellefonte (6-2) on Homecoming Night Oct. 11, and the Red Raiders were dominating early.
Bellefonte scored four touchdowns in the opening quarter and led 27-0. Bellefonte ran the ball 35 times in the game overall for 436 yards and scored three touchdowns on the ground in the first quarter.
The Dragons' defense improved in the second frame, but the offense came up short as Central trailed 34-0 at intermission.
Bellefonte was able to continue its dominance in the third quarter as it scored once on the ground and later took an interception into the end zone.
The Dragons put together a late drive and Hunter Klotz snared a 14-yard pass from Jeff Hoenstine for a touchdown on the final play of the third quarter.
With the mercy-rule clock in effect most of the second half, time went quickly. The Red Raiders were able to score late in the game to set the final score at 54-7.
Bellefonte had a slim 18-16 advantage in first downs. Central had 150 yards through the air. Braden Kitt threw for 72 yards and Hoenstine 58. Ben McConahy had three receptions for 50 yards while Klotz also had three catches. Parker Gregg was the leading rusher for the Dragons with 57 yards on eight carries while Hoenstine added 44 yards on eight tries.
Central's record evened out at 4-4 and stands at 2-4 in the Mountain League. The Dragons will host Huntingdon this Friday, Oct. 18.
"Bellefonte is a good team and they played that way tonight," Central coach Dave Baker said. "Their defense was good, they blocked hard and ran their plays successfully. They did everything good teams do and made it tough on us all night.
"We have an improving Huntingdon team this Friday and we'll prepare hard for them."
