Laura has Earned my Vote
To the Editor:
Laura Burke has earned my vote for county commissioner. As a former county employee and local attorney, Laura has experience working with various county offices and is familiar with what goes on in our courthouse. Laura knows what hard-working commissioners can do for our county.
For the past nine months Laura has attended the commissioners' weekly meetings and other public meetings and events. She will work for greater transparency in local government and better communication with citizens. As both a working mother herself and someone who represented low income families in court, Laura is especially interested in helping Blair County children and families.
Laura Burke has worked hard to prepare for the job of county commissioner, and I know her to be a person who will work even harder for us once elected. I believe that she deserves your vote too. Please vote for Laura Burke on Nov. 5.

HELP REDUCE
PLASTIC POLLUTION
To the Editor:
Every day, news footage and photos continue to reveal the damage plastic is doing to God’s oceans: turtles stuck in plastic nets, whales whose stomachs are full of plastic waste, and aerial views of the growing “island” of floating debris known as the Pacific Garbage Patch.
It is frightening to learn that tiny pieces of plastic are now showing up in our food and drinking water, endangering our health. In my opinion, the time is long overdue for our Pennsylvania lawmakers to stop putting profits over health and end “business as usual” by starting to legislate better solutions to our burgeoning plastic problem.
A good first step would be to ban single-use plastics like other states. These are reasons why I tip my hat to the Williamsburg Lions Club. They are working in tandem with a local business, River Valley Custom Apparel, who is collecting plastic waste from the public.
The purpose – to reduce plastic waste and turn it into something helpful – sturdy benches for our trail and community to enjoy. Just north of town on Route 866, at the business of River Valley Custom Apparel, the general public can drop off bags of clean, rinsed plastic waste that normally can’t be recycled in our community bins.
In closing, kudos to both River Valley Custom Apparel and the Williamsburg Lions Club for helping reduce plastic waste!

FORTY REASONS, PROVIDED
To the Editor:
One of the Herald’s regular columnists recently asked if a “well-informed comrade” could write a letter which “points out all the ways Trump is taking away our rights and threatening our democracy.”
A columnist for the New York Times listed, today, 40 reasons in a piece entitled, “Donald Trump vs The United States of America.”
That list should be sufficient for anyone curious enough to go to the link below and read the full article.
It is at https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/22/opinion/trump-ukraine-whistle-blower.html

The man is clearly unfit to sit in the Oval Office. We have become the laughingstock of the world.
