Putting cows on the front page since 1885.
Just walking down Allegheny Street toward the Diamond, it was easy to surmise that this was an exceptionally large crowd. Downtown Hollidaysburg Community Partnership officials confirmed the numbers.
The final 2019 Downtown Live Hollidaysburg Community Partnership concert on a spectacular Thursday evening, Sept. 19, brought record crowds. With three fun options – the music of Felix and the Hurricanes, along with food truck alley and night-time farmers market – there was something for everyone.
"Overall it's been great. I'm having a blast working with the community to do things with the community to bring people downtown," Katrina Pope, Hollidaysburg Borough director of community relations and events, said, "That's what it's all about. Community response has been great. People are coming out to the events. They're enjoying the concerts. This is why we do it; to get people out downtown and hanging out with their neighbors. I'm pretty excited. It's the biggest crowd we've had so far."
Felix and the Hurricanes have been entertaining crowds with their ever-changing mix of songs, both covers and originals. They smoothly transition from blues and rock to other genres, including country, without missing a beat or losing a fan on the dance floor. Band fans started dancing early in the evening on the Diamond blacktop in front of the stage as Felix and his Hurricanes rocked.
Allegheny Street, transformed into Food Truck Alley, was one packed place with cuisine selections from across the globe. Indian, Thai and Mexican food was available, along with traditional American delights from central Pennsylvania's own Doug's Dawgs to Southern and Tex-Mex.
Farmers may be known to go to bed early, but not this evening. The night-time farmers market vendors were lively, happy to engage in some food talk or offer a unique gift to visitors.
Record crowd, fabulous late summer weather, great food selection and open air market shopping made the final summer event exceptional in every way.
