Man Breaks Neck in Fall
Herald of Sept. 20, 1894
Jacob Camerer, about 45, of Roaring Spring, formerly of Martinsburg, was crossing a railroad culvert at 24th Street and Ninth Avenue in Altoona when he fell 15 feet to the street below and broke his neck. He died a short time later while being examined by a doctor at the scene. It was dark and raining, and it was surmised that he took a misstep, slipped and fell.
Leaving on a 10-day bicycle trip to Carlisle, Gettysburg and Harrisburg were William S. Nicodemus, Dr. William Bolger and John B. Skyles of Martinsburg and Charles Fluke and Leckey Allen of Woodbury.
