NB Boys

The Northern Bedford boys’ soccer team opened its season Aug. 30 with a 4-1 setback to visiting Conestoga Christian.

With his team trailing 4-0, Evan Coffey scored the Black Panthers’ first goal of the season. Levi Weidemann assisted on the goal.

Three second-half goals propelled Southern Fulton to a 4-0 victory at Northern Bedford Sept. 5.

NB Girls

Sydney Coffey and Abby Kline each had a hat trick as the Northern Bedford girls’ soccer team opened its season Sept. 3 with an 8-0 victory over visiting Tussey Mountain.

Hailey Douglas and Calea Dively also scored for the Lady Panthers. Emily Heck assisted on two goals, while Kline and Douglas each had one assist.

Visiting Southern Fulton scored three second-half goals to knock off Northern Bedford, 3-1, Sept. 5. Abby Kline scored the lone goal for the Lady Panthers. Makayla Hall assisted on the score.

Central Boys

The Central boys’ soccer team began the season last week with a pair of Mountain League contests. The Dragons fell on the road to Penns Valley and Philipsburg.

Central battled gamely at PV and the teams were deadlocked at 2-2 at the half. Colin Rupert scored both Dragon goals as they led 1-0 and 2-1 during the half. The Rams took control after intermission to win 6-3 in spite of senior captain Ruperts’ third goal giving him the hat trick for the game.

Luke Trexler and Benjamin Theys assisted on first half goals while the last one was unassisted. Zeb Wyant stopped 14 shots in goal for the Dragons.

At Philipsburg. P-O took a 1-0 first half advantage as they scored on a penalty kick with just four seconds remaining in the half. P-O added a pair of second half goals to set the final score. Goalkeeper Zeb Wyant had seven saves in the loss.

Central Girls

The Central Lady Dragon soccer team opened the 2019 season with a pair of home victories last week. The Dragons defeated league rivals Penns Valley and Philipsburg-Osceola.

In their season opener, in took a pair of overtime periods but the Lady Dragons prevailed 3-2. The teams battled to a 1-1 tie at intermission as Alyssa Bartley tied the score with an unassisted goal late in the half.

After Bartley scored again off an assist from Ella Garner, the Lady Rams sent the game into overtime with a late goal. After a scoreless first overtime, Leah Johnston scored the game winner when Tori Longenecker set her up for the score.

On Thursday, the Dragons dismantled Philipsburg 5-0. Leah Johnston continued her heroics with a pair of goals while Jaida Oakes, Tori Longenecker and Alyssa Bartley also ripped the net.
