Roaring Spring Council Names New Maintenance Supervisor

Supervisor Dane Noel Retires after 45 Years of Service

The Roaring Spring Borough Council kicked off its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 9, by saying goodbye to a long-time employee and welcoming his replacement.

Maintenance Supervisor Dane Noel retired on Aug. 23 after 45 years of service to the borough. Council thanked Noel for his dedication and the excellent work he did every day on behalf of the borough.

Noel thanked Borough Manager Lisa Peel for all the work she has been doing which, he said, made his job easier.

"I want to thank Lisa for all the things she did for me," Noel said. "She does a lot of extra work and is doing a great job."

Council officially promoted Wyatt Simington to the position of maintenance supervisor, replacing Noel. Simington has been a borough employee since 2015.

James Musselman of the Friendship Volunteer Fire Company asked council for an increase in the borough's quarterly contribution to the fire company. Council currently gives $1,500 per quarter and Musselman said they would like to see that increased to $2,000.

Council accepted the resignation of Officer Adam Ingram from the Roaring Spring Police Department. Ingram accepted a full-time position with the Hollidaysburg Police Department. Ingram had been with the department for 4-1/2 years.

Peel reported to council that all four houses the borough recently demolished on Main Street were done at no cost to the borough. Peel successfully sought out a grant from the Blair County Demolition Fund which covered the cost of tearing down the houses.

Council paid the Morrisons Cove Memorial Park $2,295 for the borough's free swim nights and swimming lessons for the summer. The park hosted four free swim nights for residents of Roaring Spring as well as 11 small group, and six large group swimming lessons.

Councilman Rodney Green said there has been a great response to the program and would like to see it expanded next year.

"Participation is growing," he said. "This was our third year doing this and the response has been positive. I'd like to expand the free swim nights from four to six."

Lt. Travis Clowson of the Roaring Spring Police Department reported that the mutual aid agreement the borough entered into with the Martinsburg and Freedom Township police departments is going well.

The police responded to 111 calls during the month of August.

The next meeting of the Roaring Spring Borough Council is scheduled for Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. at the borough building.
