CHARLES F. 'PETE' YINGLING

Charles F. "Pete" Yingling, 85, of Roaring Spring, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 14, 2019, at UPMC Altoona, following a brief battle with cancer.

Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Christ Church, Roaring Spring, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Kevin Locker and Pastor John Nothwang.

Charles was born Jan. 15, 1934, in Roaring Spring, the son of the late Frank and Violet (Reffner) Yingling.

He married Mona L. Frederick May 31, 1957, in Winchester, Va.

Charles is survived by his wife, a son, Barry C. Yingling, and a daughter, Brenda L. Yingling, all of Roaring Spring; a sister, Judy Woomer of McKee; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Corle; and a brother, Gene Yingling.

He was a 1951 graduate of Roaring Spring High School.

He was a United States Army veteran from 1956 to 1958, serving at the Pentagon.

Charles retired in 1990 as borough manager of Roaring Spring after 35 years of service and also was self employed in tax preparation for many years.

He had previously been employed at Westinghouse, Pittsburgh.

Charles had also been a lay minister for various local churches for more than 40 years.

Charles was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Roaring Spring, where he had served on church council and also treasurer.

He was a 50-year member of the Woodbury Lodge No. 539 F & AM; the Jaffa Shrine, where he was a member of the Greeters Unit; he was a Meritorious Service Award winner in the Valley of Altoona AASR, where he served as treasurer; the York Rite Mount Moriah Chapter No. 166, where he served as Most Excellent High Priest; the Mountain Commandery No. 10; the Mountain Council No. 9, where he served as Thrice Illustrious Master; the Conemaugh Gap York Rite College, where he served Pre-Eminent Governor; and the Cove Area Shrine Club, where he served as president and secretary.

He had previously served as district governor for Lions International and Tall Cedars of Lebanon No. 131 Chief Logan Forest, where he had served as Grand Tall Cedar and District Deputy Supreme Tall Cedar.

He loved sports, especially the Pittsburgh sports teams, and crossword puzzles.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles' memory may be given to the Roaring Spring Food Bank.
