Ask the Williamsburgers

It’s hard to believe that “Back to School” is right around the corner.

I spent last week busy prepping stuff for my classroom in Roaring Spring. With all this school talk, I wanted to reminisce about past high school years and all the fads that we have seen come and go throughout the years. I decided to ask the residents of Williamsburg – What was one fad that you remember from your high school years?

Here is what a few had to say:

Justin Houp: FUBU jerseys

Lori Brubaker: Tight roll jeans – glad that is over!

Loretta Beck: Hip huggers and bell bottoms

Shirley Kurtz-Flaugh: Poodle skirts, and all the can-can slips a girl could wear underneath; saddle shoes and penny loafers – and big on the colors black and pink together.

Steve Butcher: Wearing sweatshirts inside out; Sony Walkmans, boom boxes, and big hair.

Keith Crownover: Pet rocks

James Dell: White socks

James Flaig: Clackers

Rich Detwiler: The mullet

Michael Merritts: Oakley sunglasses. I wanted a pair but they were too expensive. Also the Swatch. I really liked those wrist watches.

Mark Speck: Lots of guys wearing bib overalls.

Natalie: There were many fads of the 2000s when I was in high school, but I was definitely a proud supporter of the flipped-out hairstyle. I rocked that look for years – even my senior pictures have that fancy hairstyle, I miss those days.
