Due to lack of players, the Williamsburg School District has decided to go into a co-op agreement with Juniata Valley for junior high football.
During last Tuesday evening’s meeting, Superintendent Lisa Murgas said that Williamsburg “only had about 10 students, and would be unable to have a team with that number.”
The district opened communication with Juniata Valley, which has roughly the same numbers, and decided on the co-op agreement.
“This gives our students the opportunity to continue to develop their skills to be prepared for our JV and varsity teams,” Murgas said.
Murgas said that the district was spending its “STEM” grant money of $25,000 to include a makeover of the high school library, which Murgas said that she hopes will become a “student-centered STEM area.”
The library will be getting new paint, carpeting and furniture. Supt. Murgas said the last time the library was renovated was 1999.
Elementary Principal Jennifer Metzler said that kindergarten orientation would be on Thursday, Aug. 15, with children riding on the bus and other activities. Metzler also said that class lists will be ready for the first week of August.
Secondary Principal Michael Jones said that 7th and 9th grade orientations would be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6, with 7th grade at 6 p.m., and 9th at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
Mandi Prough was appointed as the junior. high girls’ assistant basketball coach and Elizabeth Isenberg was appointed as a cross-country volunteer.
