Martinsburg Fire Co. Sells More Than 4,300 Sandwiches

Hundreds of folks gathered Friday and Saturday, July 19-20, at Morrisons Cove Community Park in Martinsburg for the local fire company's annual Ox Roast Festival.

According to Richard Brantner Jr., assistant fire chief, more than 4,300 sandwiches were sold during the two-day event.

The meat was purchased from Rhodes Meat Market, Martinsburg. Eight hundred pounds of meat were used Friday and 900 pounds Saturday.

In addition to ox roast, the fire company also sold beef and noodles, homemade pies, cakes and other goodies, drinks and more.

Entertainment was provided by the Sharptones on Friday and Full Kilt on Saturday.

Raffle tickets for items donated by the community businesses were drawn Saturday evening. More than 70 items were given out. Fifty-50 tickets were also drawn both evenings as well as rip offs.

The Martinsburg Fire Company has been making ox roast since 1934. The department has shown many other fire companies the process on how to do the event. This process and the event was accomplished by the help of about 30 volunteers from the fire company and from the community and family members.
