Fighting For Her Life
Herald of July 24, 1969
A Martinsburg mother of four is fighting for her life this week.
Mrs. Edith LaRue Teeter, 29, has been a patient in Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh, since July 2, a victim of renal failure, a chronic kidney disease. Mrs. Teeter, wife of Terry Teeter, 210 Locust Street, has very little use of one kidney. The other kidney is completely useless.
Her survival, according to a sister, Mrs. Joseph Corrigan of Martinsburg, depends on an artificial kidney. The machine is an important one, and though life is “priceless,” an expensive one as well. Mr. Teeter will not be able to meet the cost of the artificial kidney, estimated at over $40,000. The machine’s maintenance, supplies and other special equipment will cost $ 3,500.
The family is appealing to the public for help in meeting the financial burdon.
The children range in age from 11 years to three years: Gary, 11, Eddie and Denny, twins, 7, and Penny Sue, 3. The children have not seen their mother since she went to Pittsburgh in early July.
