Putting cows on the front page since 1885.
Many times, my sister and I have heard the story about how our parents met at Louie’s Coral Lounge. My mom swore to her friends that she would never marry that “Rick Gorsuch,” but God had other plans. They recently celebrated their 37th anniversary together. This love story got me thinking – Where did you and your significant other first meet? Here is what a few Williamsburg residents had to say:
Sarah Hall: Match.com
Jamie Shultz: On a bus to Dover, Delaware – on our way to a NASCAR race.
James Flaig: We met in the school gymnasium. The first time I saw her was in the library and I told my friend I was going to marry her. We are celebrating our 40th anniversary on the 28th of July.
Shelly Rispoli: In my parents’ backyard when I was five.
Kayla Detwiler: We’re both from Williamsburg. I had a crush on him since 7th grade and would joke with my family that I would marry Joe Detwiler. When he got out of the U.S. Air Force fall of 2004, after sharing smiles and quick hellos in passing, he attended my homecoming and we spent the second half of the game together and he gave me his house number. And I did indeed marry him.
Amber Imler: I met my fiancé on myspace in a chat room for the slot machine game Cheers.
Jim Lloyd: I was pitching in a little league game at Canoe Creek field against Teresa’s brother and her father, the coach. She liked my pitch.
Jessica Brua: Blind date through my brother-in-law.
Lori Brubaker: Back in the early ‘90s, hanging out in town on weekends, but it wasn’t until many years later that we became a couple.
Dotty Herd: Met him at church; 10 days later, he proposed. We were married six weeks later and 46 years later, we are still together.
Ashley Claycomb: At his mom’s house when I was spending the night with his sisters. He was with another girl at the time, but I knew I wanted to marry him as soon as I met him.
Bonnie Hammond: He was my boss at the U.S. Envelope Co.
Leslie Lower: At age 14, when I moved to Williamsburg in 1987. Thirty-two years later and I’m still just as crazy about him as I was back then.
Polly Smith: At the American Legion – going on six years – met my soulmate.
Sue Fisher: The school bus. He would always sit in front of me. He always made me laugh, and still does.
Rita Gorsuch: At Dick Gunnett’s carwash. My dad said, “you’re aren’t going out with that hippie.”
