Hospital Bids High

Herald of June 26, 1969

The bids for an expansion project at the Nason Hospital came in $175,000 higher than anticipated, but the hospital trustees agreed to proceed with the project. A Martinsburg contractor was the low bidder for general construction. The architects, Campbell, Rea, Hayes and Large of Altoona, will adjust the specification to take any possible savings that can be made by eliminating equipment that is not immediately necessary. This equipment can be installed at some later time as funds are available, according to a spokesman for the hospital.

A direct highway route from the northern Cove to the Raystown Dam at Marklesburg has been recommended by residents of the Williamsburg area to the Blair County Planning Commission. The highway, 7.2 miles in length, would follow the route of a little-used township road which crosses Tussey Mountain at a point in the lower Clover Creek district. Willis L. Greaser of Woodbury Township has been active in calling to the attention of county authorities the advantages of improving this road.
