How Law Enacted in M-burg

A “hog law” was enacted in Martinsburg after several years of complaints by borough citizens. Residents were no longer allowed to let their swine run free in the streets and alleys of the town. Those not confining their pigs would be fined.
A petition was circulated in Roaring Spring opposing a planned camp meeting of “colored people” that was to be held near the town. Residents said they were concerned about the “demoralizing effects” of such a meeting.
