A quaint pet lodge that was designed and built specifically for pets' needs and comfort is nestled along a quiet rural Cove mountain road on a private wooded lot outside of Roaring Spring.
Jessica King opened Among the Wild LLC – Pet Lodging and Positive Pet Training at 961 Burkettown Road, Roaring Spring, in February. King held an open house on May 3 and 4 to showcase her business.
King said the mission of Among the Wild is to provide a stress-free, enriching lodging environment for each pet that stays in the company's care. King also offers 100 percent positive pet training.
King's idea started when she adopted two Australian shepherd puppies, both of which ended up having problems. This is when she decided to go back to school and became a certified positive dog trainer. After being a dog trainer now for more than three years, King said she wanted to be able to offer a "small, home-like boarding option that has individualized care for each pet, is non communal, and offers enrichment for pets in my care."
"Boarding should not have to be stressful for dogs on their parents," said King said, who is also certified in first aid training for pets.
Among the Wild's temperature-controlled facility has five fully furnished large rooms, an indoor play area and a large partially wooded fenced yard to play in. Each room is named after an animal found in the wild and each has its own TV.
King said she plans to add a digging area and a dog pool.
Treats and other products are available for sale at this facility.
