The 2019-20 preliminary budget approved by the school directors at Claysburg-Kimmel on May 8 includes a real estate tax increase of 3.4 percent, the district’s Act 1 limit.
The preliminary plan was approved by an 8-1 vote. Shelda Repko, board vice president, cast the only “no” vote.
The preliminary budget has the district’s expenses at $13,308,176 and the revenue at $12,519,255 – a deficit of $788,951.
According to Michelle Smithmyer, the district’s business manager, the increase would generate about $150,000 – or an average of $10.25 annually for each taxable parcel.
