Claysburg-Kimmel Future Business Leaders of America member Emily Claar placed first in the Who's Who in Pennsylvania FBLA event at the Pennsylvania State Leadership Conference in Hershey on April 8-10.
This prestigious honor also includes a William Selden Scholarship of $1,500. The scholarship is named in honor of former long-time PA FBLA State chairman and considered to be the modern-day founder of PA FBLA, William Selden.
The Who's Who award recognizes member involvement and accomplishments in FBLA during the student's four years in FBLA, including attendance at local, state and national conferences, leadership positions, community service, competitive events and outstanding contributions to FBLA.
Emily, a senior, will also be recognized on the stage at the National Leadership Conference in San Antonio on June 27-July 3.
Emily, the daughter of Shawn and Christina Claar of Imler, will attend Saint Francis University, Loretto, in the fall of 2019 majoring in physician assistant studies.
Claysburg-Kimmel also recently learned that Emily is one of only five students across the country who will receive the National Distinguished Business Leader Scholarship at this summer's National Leadership Conference in San Antonio. Emily will be recognized at the NLC Opening Session on June 29. Emily will receive a $500 scholarship at the NLC and will receive another $500 scholarship should she join Phi Beta Lambda as she pursues her post-secondary education.
"Emily has been a tremendous leader during her four years in FBLA," Steven Walter, C-K FBLA advisor, said. "She has served as regional and chapter president the past two years, has co-created two community service projects, and has earned her way to nationals for the fourth time. More importantly, she unselfishly gives her time to C-K and the community with the goal of making the lives of others better.
"We are thankful to have had Emily representing our school over the past four years. We are all so very proud of Emily for her many accomplishments and wish her well as she begins a new journey this fall."
