Curry Supply Division Gets State Rail Grant of $700,000

Four rail infrastructure projects in Blair County, including one for a Cove company, will receive a total of nearly $3.5 million in grants from the state Department of Transportation (PennDOT), according to Senator Judy Ward (R-30th) and Representative Jim Gregory (R-80th).

Projects that will receive grants include:

• A $700,000 award to Curry Rail Services for a project to expand and rehabilitate yard tracks at its facility to increase capacity and support its new business line.

Curry Rail Services is one of the Curry Supply family businesses. Curry Supply is located on Curryville Road in Martinsburg. Curry Rail Services is located in Hollidaysburg.

• A $693,357 award to Millennium Rail, LLC, to rehabilitate yard tracks at the Hollidaysburg Tank Car Shop to increase the yard’s capacity and efficiency.

• A $700,000 award to Mineral Manufacturing Corporation to construct an unloading pit, acquire unloading equipment, and rehabilitate nearly one mile of yard tracks.

• A $1.4 million award to D Holdings to rehabilitate yard tracks at the Hollidaysburg Transload Facility and construct a new siding to serve existing and future businesses.

“Railroads have always been an integral part of the history and growth of the surrounding area,” Sen. Ward said. “Investing in our rail infrastructure not only honors our past heritage but also benefits our existing industries by allowing increased efficiency and creating opportunities for expansion in the future.”

“These expansion projects are important not only for the economy in Blair County, but also throughout the nation,” Rep. Gregory said. “Senator Ward and I recently visited some of these facilities to learn about their work with domestic materials. These industry leaders are poised to grow, and I’m proud to support that growth.”

The grants were awarded through the Rail Transportation Assistance Program and the Rail Freight Assistance Program, both of which are administered by PennDOT.

A total of 27 rail infrastructure projects throughout the state received financial support from the state in the current round of funding.
