C-K Baseball Team Falls to .500 Mark

Claysburg-Kimmel lost two of three during the past week in high school baseball action.

The Bulldogs were 6-6 through their first 12 games.

B-A 13, C-K 1

At C-K on April 16, Bellwood-Antis scored seven runs in the sixth en route to a 13-1, six-inning victory.

B-A scored twice in the first, before C-K scored its only run of the game in the second. The Blue Devils added three in the third and one in the fifth, before its big inning in the sixth.

The Bulldogs managed just two hits – singles by Zach McCarty and Kobe Harr. McCarty drove in Kyle Glass with the team’s lone run.

Hayden Ickes, Dominic Francona and Preston Bush threw for C-K. They yielded 12 hits and nine walks and struck out three.

C-K 4, B-A 3 (8)

The following day, April 17, the Bulldogs and Blue Devils got together at Bellwood-Antis, with C-K scoring a 4-3, eight-inning victory.

C-K led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, where B-A scored twice to send the game into extra innings. The Bulldogs scored once in the top of the eighth to avenge the previous day’s setback.

C-K finished with 10 hits, including two by Dominic Francona and Kyle Glass. Francona, Connor Oakes, Corey Chamberlain and RJ Helsel each drove in one run. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Glass, Canaan Burket, Kobe Harr and Zach McCarty.

Chamberlain and Glass pitched for the Bulldogs. Chamberlain, who started, struck out six in six innings. Glass threw the final two innings and got the win.

West Branch 6, C-K 3

At West Branch on April 18, C-K was unable to hold onto a three-run lead and dropped a 6-3 decision.

The Bulldogs scored their three runs in the first two innings. West Branch scored four in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Canaan Burket (triple) and RJ Helsel each had two hits for C-K. Helsel added two RBIs.

Dominic Francona, Hayden Ickes and Preston Bush were on the mound for the Bulldogs. They combined to strike out nine.
