Martinsburg Borough Police will be collecting unused, unwanted and expired medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at James Drug Store, located inside C&S Family Markets in Martinsburg.
This will be a safe and proper way for citizens to dispose of outdated and unused medications, keeping them off the streets.
Other locations on Saturday will be the Blair County Sheriff Office, located in front of the Blair County Courthouse, 423 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg; and at Thompson’s Pharmacy in Altoona, 600 E. Chestnut Ave.
The event will be held in conjunction with this year’s National Take-Back Initiative (a drug take-back program).
Pa. Attorney General Josh Shapiro on April 16 announced that the Office of Attorney General’s Drug Take Back Program recently surpassed 100 tons of prescription drugs destroyed since 2017.
Since January 2017, the Drug Take Back Program has destroyed 208,420 pounds – or 104.21 tons – of prescription drugs.
In 2017, more than 43 tons of prescriptions were destroyed, which was a 65 percent increase from 2016. In the first few months of 2019 alone, more than 13 tons have been destroyed.
