GEORGE W. NEAD

George W. Nead, 79, of Roaring Spring, loving husband of 31 years to Dorothy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, surrounded by his children at home.

Per George's request, there will be no viewing or services, and his wishes were to be cremated.

George was born on April 18, 1939, in Williamsburg, son of the late Wilbert A. and Jessie Marie (Stevens) Nead.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; children: Pam Hinterberger (Don Ott) of Duncansville, George Nead Jr. of Altoona, Karen Salsgiver (Joe Grasser) of Roaring Spring and Shawn Nead of Altoona; three stepchildren he considered his own: Mary Olivieri (Chad) of East Freedom, John Montgomery (Sharon) of Wilmington, Delaware and James Montgomery of Wilmington; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: Robert of Altoona and Wilbert Eugene of Manchester, Connecticut; and his beloved dog, Gina.

George was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Jamie Montgomery; and his three sisters: Betty Isenberg, Beverly Beach and Darlene Fonner.

George was a 1959 graduate of Williamsburg High School. He was active in several sports in high school and was on the Blue Pirates' football team that won the Inter-County Championship in 1957.

He retired from Appleton Papers in 2003 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, reloading, traveling, spending time with his family, watching sports – especially basketball, football, Little League baseball and softball – and enjoying the summer weather on his porch during his retirement.
