Cove Boy Reported Missing

Herald of March 30,1944

Staff Sergeant Virgil F. Summers, aged 23 years, a former North Woodbury township young man, is missing somewhere over Germany, according to word received earlier this week by the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Summers, who in May moved from the Cove to 108 Newry Street, Hollidaysburg.

It is evident from all reports that young men who are fathers are being rapidly rushed into the armed service. It is said that increasing numbers of young men, especially under 25 years of age, will be hurried into the overseas activities to build up resistance and strengthen the forces for invasion.

Late Wednesday night the remains of Pfc. Milton Brumbaugh, who was drowned while out on maneuvers at Fort Benning, Ga., March 11, arrived in Altoona and was brought to the funeral home of K.R. Miller at Martinsburg. The military escort accompanying the body was Sgt. T. A. Ammerman, fellow soldier and close friend of the deceased. Sgt. Ammerman is remaining for the funeral services at the Memorial Church of the Brethren.
