The Martinsburg Police Department is alerting the public to be on the lookout for counterfeit bills – featuring Chinese writing on the front and back – that are circulating the area.
Chief of Police Kerry L. Hoover said his department was notified of a counterfeit $10 bill that was discovered locally this week.
"We would like to make everyone aware that these bills are being used in the area and they are easy to recognize," Chief Hoover said.
Chief Hoover said it is the understanding of local law enforcement that these bills are used in other countries to teach people how to recognize and count American money.
"These are somehow working their way into circulation in our country and they look very similar to our money, but are worthless," he said.
Chief Hoover said counterfeit bills have been turned into Freedom and Blair Township police departments.
If anyone locates any of these bills, they are asked notify their local law enforcement agency and let officials know where and when the counterfeit bill was discovered.
