– Ask the Williamsburgers –

For many of us, fads and trends come and go – one minute they’re the next big thing and then they die out rapidly. This week’s question asked residents of Williamsburg – What is one fad/trend from your childhood or teen years that you miss and why?

Here is what a few had to say:

Robert Knepp: Respect for elders

Rich Detwiler: People minding their own business

Donna Gibson: I miss receiving a thank-you note in the mail from someone. It seems that the younger generations think they don’t have to acknowledge any gratitude when they are given something special on a special occasion such as a birthday, Christmas or a wedding. I was raised to not just say “thanks,” but to mail a thank-you card.

Crystal Hamilton: Coming to Williamsburg to see my grandmother, Hazel.

Linda Price: Just the simplicity of life; no cell phones.

Cynthia Kolodziej: Going to Cypher to roller skate on Saturday nights

Marianne Nicholas: Eating Sunday dinner at Pete and Peggy’s restaurant

Sheryl Hart: Roller skating and dances at the Community Center when Stella Roarabaugh managed it. She loved us and kept us in line, all at the same time. I miss her laugh.

Julie Scott: Bill Lee’s pool hall, a great place to be with your friends.
