The resignation letter of secondary social studies teacher Richard Baronner was accepted during the Feb. 26 meeting of the Williamsburg Community School Board.
Baronner, who had 20 years with the district, was commended on his service by several board members.
Superintendent Lisa Murgas discussed the difficulty of calling delays and closings of snow days.
“It’s not an easy decision,” Murgas said, “but it’s better to be safe than sorry.”
As of the meeting, Williamsburg’s last day is slated for June 6.
Elementary Principal Jennifer Metzler said the elementary school celebrated its 100th day of school on Feb. 11 with lots of fun activities. Elementary students were treated to a STEM assembly from Penn State Altoona that involved liquid nitrogen. Metzler said that March 15 will be kindergarten registration.
Metzler also told boardmembers that the elementary school is looking into a positive behavior system that awards tickets for good behaviors.
“This will bring more attention for positive behavior,” Metzler said.
Secondary Principal Michael Jones talked with boardmembers that he and Guidance Counselor Carrie Loose had been working diligently on the schedule and also creating descriptions of the classes students have the options of taking.
Jones said he wanted students to “be more informed on classes.”
Some of the approved appointments at the meeting were Beth Lansberry (junior high softball); Ben Mercer (junior high football coach); Ed Clark, Mitch Yeager and Terry Lee (varsity football volunteers); Tim McCauley (varsity assistant football coach); Justin Becker (varsity assistant football coach); and Andrew Scalice (varsity assistant baseball coach).
A closed-door session was held from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. to discuss personnel, school security and negotiations.
