Central Girls Climb to .500 With Consecutive Victories

The Central Lady Dragon basketball team ended the season on a strong note, winning both games last week and evening its record to 11-11 on the season.

Central (seeded eighth) defeated Mountain League rival Philipsburg-Osceola (seeded ninth) 37-24 on Tuesday, Feb. 19 Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the opening game of this year’s District 6 3A playoffs. CHS will play at top-seeded Penns Valley at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22.

CHS 46, Huntingdon 35

The Dragons hosted Huntingdon on Nov. 12 (now 13-8) in a league affair and jumped ahead 14-8 after one quarter and led 27-16 at intermission. Central continued to dominate with a 12-9 edge in the third frame and won convincingly 46-35.

Kylie Metzger paced a balanced offense with 11 points, followed by Tori Longenecker with 10. Maddi Metzler added nine points, while Bailey Heuston scored eight.

CHS 42, NB 23

In a non-league match-up with Northern Bedford on Nov. 14, Central won all four quarters and held NBC to just 13 points through three quarters. The Lady Dragons had leads of 12-5, 18-10 and 30-13 after each of the first three quarters before settling for the 42-23 victory.

Kylie Metzger scored 19 points which included nine baskets. Maddi Metzler chipped in 10 points in the win.

Cameron Pressel led NB (3-19) with eight points.

“The girls played well from the start both nights and the defense stood out in both games,” Central coach Rob Mock said. “We had nice balance against a solid Huntingdon team and Kylie was dominant against Northern.”
