4 NB Wrestlers Advance To Southwest Regionals

Northern Bedford High School will send four wrestlers to the Southwest Class 2A Regional Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23, at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Ian Sherlock, Austin Mowry, Alex Fouse and Kyle Guyer qualified for regionals by placing in the top three of their respective weight classes at the District 5 Class 2A championships on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

Sherlock, a junior, claimed the 138-pound title. He pinned Berlin Brothersvalley’s Clayton Lee in 56 seconds to capture the title. Sherlock won all three bouts on Saturday to raise his season record to 21-3.

Mowry placed second at 170 pounds. Chestnut Ridge’s Jared McGill won by technical fall over Mowry in the title bout, 16-1 at the 4:59 mark. Mowry’s 2-1 record on Saturday gave him 24 wins in 29 outings this season.

Fouse placed second at 182 pounds. He was pinned 34 seconds into overtime by Chestnut Ridge’s Austin Crouse. The score was deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the extra session. Fouse, 2-1 for the tournament, is 22-4 on the year.

Guyer placed third at 220 pounds. He won by a 9-7 decision over Berlin Brothersvalley’s Jake Most in the battle for third place. Guyer, who finished the tournament with a 3-1 mark, is 21-12 on the season.

Tristin Pepple and Jay Ebersole each placed fourth for NB, missing a spot in the regional tournament by one place. Pepple competed in the 120-pound weight class, while Ebersole was at 285.

As a team, Northern Bedford placed fourth in the 11-team field with 117 points. Ahead of the Panthers were Chestnut Ridge (250 team points), Tussey Mountain (118.5) and Everett (118).
