Black Panthers Fall To Glendale, Tussey

Glendale defeated Northern Bedford 78-55 in boys’ basketball at NB last Wednesday evening, Jan. 23.

The Vikings led 31-19 at the half. NB got as close as 38-30 in the middle of the third period before the Vikings went on a run that ballooned the lead to 30 points and put the game away.

“We didn’t do a very good job of keeping them off the boards and had too many turnovers that prevented us from having offensive possessions,” NB coach Shawn Hicks said.

Caleb Diehl (16) and Dalton Smith (10) hit double figures for the Panthers.

There was no junior varsity game.

Tussey Mt. 67, NB 48

Tussey Mountain crept away from Northern Bedford in the first half and rolled to a 67-48 victory at the Panthers’ home floor last Friday night, Jan. 25.

Tussey jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the opening minutes, but NB quickly closed the lead to 12-9. After trading several buckets the Titan lead was at 19-13 when the Titans went on a 14-4 run in the waning minutes of the first half to take a commanding 33-17 halftime lead.

“We missed five free throws in a row and committed several turnovers during that stretch,” disappointed NB coach Shawn Hicks said. “We can't let teams sneak away from us like that. We don't have the type of team to make up big deficits.”

Tussey led by as many as 22 before the final buzzer sounded and was never threatened in the second half.

Dalton Smith (14 points), Hayden Foor (11), Thad Leidy (11) and Caleb Diehl (10) gave the Panthers balanced scoring.

Tussey held off a late NB charge to win the junior varsity contest, 30-25.
