'Friends' to Give Money to Library

The Friends of the Martinsburg Community Library met Tuesday evening, Jan. 15, at the Martinsburg Community Library.

The Friends voted to give $3,500 from their treasury to the library.

The net profit for the candy/pretzel sale was $2,584. Next year’s sale will be in December.

Janet Garman reported that a new quilt is almost finished. The quilt will be displayed at the library and will be raffled off as a fundraiser for the library.

The Cove Book Club read “Beloved,” by Toni Morrison in January. In February everyone will bring a favorite book to share with the group.

The winter book sale is scheduled for Feb. 21-23 during regular library hours.

The raffle basket for February will be children’s books.

Librarian Jackie Rhule reported that the Essential Oils Program was a success. Another class will be held on Feb. 11. A Pokemon Club will meet at the library on the first Tuesday of each month to trade cards.

At 2 p.m. on Feb. 15, the Blair County Drug and Alcohol Abuse Agency will provide a free information session for parents. They will have lock boxes available.

The Martinsburg Community Library will have a table at the Women’s Expo at Homewood on March 23. Hopefully the new quilt will be finished and will be on display.

The Taste of the Cove is scheduled for Oct. 19.

Fundraising letters will be sent celebrating “Love Your Library” month in February.

Janet Garman was installed as a new director.

The next Friends meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19.
